Introduction to Curtain Up

Hi! My name is Abi (She/Her) and I am behind Curtain Up. If you've already had an explore around the page, this blog is simply a kind of journal to track my thoughts on the theatre industry. It's a whole bunch of word vomit with maybe a hint of sense? Who knows...

Let's Start at the Very Beginning... ish?

Like many, I've always had an interest in Musical Theatre. From a kid watching Mary Poppins and Joseph (yes, I was an ALW kid!) there has always been something about the music, the costumes, just the whole get-up of going to the theatre with my mum and those memories have stuck with me.

After graduating last year (2021) from the University of Portsmouth with a degree in Musical Theatre, I didn't want to lose the writing habits that I had developed during my time at uni and thus Curtain Up was brought to life. Whilst studying I gained a love for dramaturgy and theatre criticism, so much so that I ended up writing my final piece on Gender Performativity in Theatre which is something that I’m still interested in and wish to continue. (Might see some of that appear...???)

Anyway, my love for theatre has never really deminished. So why not make something out of it! This is just a little hobby to pass the time in between things, but who knows what could happen next?
